City Cancels Fourth of July Events for 2021 Amidst Pandemic Uncertainty

The City of Claremont is cancelling all in-person Fourth of July Celebration events scheduled for July 4, 2021. Given the uncertainty of the status of County and State Health Orders in July, staff felt it prudent to cancel the in-person events at this time. The decision to cancel the annual event was presented to the Independence Day Committee on February 22, 2021 at their meeting.

The annual event consists of a 1K/5K run/walk, parade, festival, and fireworks show and is funded through sponsorships and revenue generated from the events. Planning for the events is a year-long endeavor and vendor contracts are signed months in advance. The decision to cancel the events needed to be made before contracts were executed and non-refundable deposits were made.

In place of the in-person events, staff will be pursuing virtual ways to engage the community and celebrate the Fourth of July.
